Лицо, имеющее, как правило, наиболее привилегированный доступ (root). Это лицо должно иметь свой персональный вход в сеть (login account) для повседневного использования и возможность корневого доступа (root account) при возникновении в системе серьезных проблем. В таких случаях администратор может использовать специальные средства управления сетью. Администратор имеет все права привилегированных пользователей и дополнительную возможность изменения параметров корневого доступа (включая пароль). Поскольку в системе поддерживается обычно только один корневой вход, администраторов также не может быть несколько (несколько человек могут использовать один вход). Обычно в информационной панели крупных систем указывается имя администратора и способы связи с ним.
